Important Information for the Nunat Fish Database

Do I have to give my name and Village?

After you enter your contact information, your real name and contact information will not show up in the database. It will be kept in a part of the database that people cannot see. Just your village name and database name will show up. AITC will contact you if a database user has questions and wants to know more about your observation. You can decide whether you would like to contact them. AITC will not give out your contact information without permission.

When observations are entered with contact information, they are considered to be much more reliable. Therefore, to best document the fish problem, please enter your contact information. Contact information is kept private in the database and people will not be able to view it. However, you can enter observations without contact information.

After I report my fish, what else can be done? Can I get the fish tested?

What about reporting information to the State or other agencies?

We encourage Villages to report their fish deformities or diseases to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG). By contacting their Fish Pathology department, you will be able to talk with someone who has a lot of experience working with abnormal and diseased fish in Alaska. If you upload your fish picture and description to the Nunat fish database, you can tell them to look for the report there.

ADFG may be able to tell you what is wrong with the fish over the phone, especially if they can see a picture and read your observations.
